HONEST LITTLE SLEEPIES REVIEW (NOT SPONSORED!)
I buy $34 zip-up pajamas. You may be thinking, “But wait! That’s expensive! Aren’t you supposed to talk about things that are a ‘good value’???”, and my answer would be, “Always!”. If you’ve heard about these cult pajamas and wondered if you should buy into them, proceed to read this post to learn why I think Little Sleepies are worth it.
WHAT I LOVE
MADE OUT OF BAMBOO VISCOSE
Bamboo viscose is a natural material and super soft so it’s great for sensitive skin. My daughter has eczema during the winter so I do care about using materials that are gentle on her skin. Bamboo viscose is also very stretchy so it’s easy for your little one to move in, and it’s why they will be able to fit into a piece for a long time. Lastly, the material is breathable and temperature-regulating so they keep your baby warm in the winter but won’t overheat them during warmer months.
THOUGHTFUL DESIGN DETAILS
They have a two-way zipper, which is always nice for diaper changes. Secondly, they have optional foldover mitts and feet. If you’ve ever had to debate buying zip-up pajamas with mitts or feet, you don’t have to think about it with Little Sleepies. You have the option of both! My daughter has never used mitts, but the convertible feet are useful so we can put them on for extra warmth and can fold them back for walking.
CAN BE WORN FOR OVER A YEAR
This is the main reason why they are a great value! The long wearability is not only facilitated by the stretchy material. Lots of brands use bamboo viscose, but Little Sleepies are designed with extra length at the wrists and ankles that you can easily cuff when your baby first starts to wear them. There’s a little extra length in the body too. My daughter is 19 months now and has been wearing size 12-18 months since she was a year old. I’m confident I can get at least a year out them. I’ll update this post when she has outgrown hers to confirm how long she was able to wear them. I’ve seen other reviewers post their 15 month olds legit fitting into size 0-3 months.
If you do the math, inexpensive zip-up pajamas cost an average of $8 a piece. In your child’s first year, they’ll go through four sizes because you have to upsize their wardrobe every 3 months. $8×4 = $32/year for each footie you need in their wardrobe. That’s the same cost as one Little Sleepies which lasts more than a year.
Furthermore, if you read my post The Practical Way to Dress a Baby, you know I try to dress my child as efficiently as possible. That means minimizing the amount of time I waste shopping for clothes and buying as little as possible because I don’t have the space to store an outgrown wardrobe every 3 months. Time and storage space saved are my other reasons why Little Sleepies are a good investment.
YOU NEVER HAVE TO FULL PRICE PAY FOR THEM
Influencers often offer 15% off codes on their websites. There is always one floating around on the internet. Just Google search “15% off Little Sleepies code”. Also, if you join the “Little Sleepies VIPs” Facebook group, you get a 15% off code to use on all future orders. Instead of $34, you pay just under $30 per pajama.
During Black Friday week in 2022, they had a 30% off site-wide sale so that’s the best time to stock up.
FREE SHIPPING
It’s free shipping on orders over $25. Reaching that $25 is no problem because pretty much everything they sell is over $25. I like this as a consumer because I’m not pressured to buy things I might not want just to reach the minimum for free shipping. I could buy only one zippy if I wanted and get free shipping.
UNBELIEVABLY GOOD RESALE VALUE
If the cost for you is still hard to swallow, the resale value is practically at retail value. If you’re willing to put in the time, you can resell your Little Sleepies for almost the same as what you paid for them and sometimes even more! I.e., you pay almost nothing for them.
This is not a joke! Little Sleepies has done an amazing job of marketing their pajamas as collectibles with limited edition prints. Real Little Sleepies enthusiasts will pay a pretty penny for retired or sold out prints. There is a huge Facebook group called “Little Sleepies BST” that has a whole system in place for people to purge their items. The condition ranges from good used condition to new with tags. Used pajamas are usually sold for about $25 (including cost to ship). I’ve seen a fair share of some in excellent used condition get snatched up for $60 because the buyer really wanted that particular print. I’m personally not that desperate for a print, but apparently there’s a market for it!
MATCHING FAMILY PAJAMAS YOU’LL WANT TO WEAR
There are SO many year-round options for matching pajamas for every member of your family, even your fur babies. You no longer have to wait for the holidays for your whole clan to match (but they do have cute holiday options, too!). I got the “Reindeer Cheer” print, including the pet bandana, for my family.
I particularly like the modern cut and fit of the adult pajamas. For women, most of them come in a jogger pant and henley top. For men, it’s typically a plain T cut and straight leg pants. While this may be subjective, I’ve had size issues with other brands of pajamas, like Posh Peanut, where the XS is too tight but the S is huge. I’m a true S in Little Sleepies for both top and bottoms. My husband loves the feel of his pajamas so much that he bought another set and wears them every night.
Tip: If you want family pajamas where you can buy a matching set for new additions to your family, choose a signature print because those will always be available.
GREAT GIFTS
Little Sleepies straddles that line where many new parents hesitate to buy them because of the cost but are glad they have them once they take the plunge. That’s why I like giving them as gifts because it’ll allow them to try Little Sleepies without having to buy them first. Plus, I love giving gifts that I know will get a ton of use. Zip-up pajamas are something most parents have in their child’s closet at all times, and given how long Little Sleepies fit, their little one will be using them for many months to come. Screw that $100 Sunday’s best outfit on the registry that the baby will only wear once.
DECENT VARIETY OF GENDER NEUTRAL PRINTS
To get the most value out of my Little Sleepies, I stick to gender neutral colors and prints so I can use them for future babies. Don’t you hate when you’re trying to find unisex prints for a girl, but all the search filter does is add all the boy prints with trucks and basketballs to your search? I like how Little Sleepies offers a good enough variety of gender neutral prints and solids. Pictured below is my collection. I also have the “Lunar Neutral” print seen in the photo at the top of this post.
WHAT I DON’T LOVE
Given my enthusiasm for all the pros above, none of the below are deal breakers for me, but for thoroughness, I’ll give you some of my cons.
TAKES A LONG TIME TO DRY
To take the best care of your Little Sleepies, it’s recommended you air dry them. Being the efficient mom I strive to be, I sometimes tumble dry them. Due to the extra folds of fabric for the foldover mittens and foot coverings, those areas never fully dry in the dryer. I still have to air dry them for a few hours before putting them in the dresser.
NO GRIPPERS ON THE FEET
This is the one extra little thing I think Little Sleepies could add to the 12-18 month sizes on up so I don’t have to put grippy socks on my daughter when her feet are cold.
PRINTS CAN BE LOUD
It a little hard to find day-to-night prints and solids, which are my personal preference. When they do drop a more sophisticated print or solid, it sells out quickly. The colorful cutesy kiddie prints is kind of their thing, though, so this isn’t a bad thing if you like them.
RETURN POLICY
When you make a return, if you want your money back in the original form of payment, they’ll deduct the cost of return shipping. If you want full credit back, you can only get it in the form of store credit. In a perfect world, I’d get free return shipping on everything. I once did make a size exchange, and it was annoying to wait for my return to go through before getting my store credit to purchase a different size.
CRINGEY CULT FOLLOWING
Little Sleepies was genius in creating a Facebook group called “Little Sleepies VIPs” that they invite every first-time buyer to join. The marketing just does itself. It is chock full of die-hard fans who hype each other up about the newest print drops and “sheepishly” share screenshots of their carts full of hundreds of dollars of merchandise, captioned “Don’t tell my husband. Hehe.” If you know you are easily influenced to join the bandwagon, this Facebook group could be dangerous to your wallet. Luckily I have enough restraint to just roll my eyes when I come across a cringey post in my feed.
